Benefits Summary

At Bastian Material Handling, in addition to your salary, commissions, and incentive plans, you have a wide variety of benefits, services, and perks available to assist you and your family in many different ways. These benefits help each employee maintain a good balance in their life. Below is an overview of the benefits offered to BMH employees in recognition of their value. Health and Dental Insurance

Providing excellent, cost-effective medical insurance protection with competitive benefits is a primary concern at BMH. The insurance plans are reviewed annually to provide the plan that best fits the needs of our employees. New regular full-time employees are eligible to receive medical insurance coverage starting the first day of the month after the date of hire. The company covers approximately 80-100% of the cost for medical insurance. Halo also offers two different medical plan choices. The first plan is the Halo Premium Plan which includes co-pays as well as low deductibles. The second plan is a high deductible Health Savings Plan which allows employees to save tax free dollars for medical usage. This plan has lower monthly premiums. Our dental plan is supported by Humana Dental. This plan gives employees an option to have great dental coverage for low monthly premiums. This dental plan includes a vision section. This portion of the plan gives employees discounts on visits to the eye doctor as well as glasses and contact lenses.

Short/Long Term Disability Insurance

An employee who has a temporary disability (serious accident or illness) may request a leave of absence of up to four weeks at a full pay status provided a statement from a physician is supplied to the employer. BMH will hold the employee's job for up to twelve weeks per FMLA requirements. BMH provides long term disability insurance and worker compensation for its employees. These benefits cover 60% of your average gross wages over the past 12 months.

Employee Assistance Program

Each employee is responsible for helping any other employee who has a personal issue which may have an affect on work performance. The company maintains a list of referral services for employees with problems. Counseling and referrals are provided on a confidential basis.

Vacation/Holiday Pay

It is important that all BMH employees have vacation time in order to relax, spend time with their families, and do whatever they like doing. Therefore, each full time employee will earn vacation as follows:

0-3 years of service - 12 days
3-6 years of service - 16 days
6 or more years of service - 21 days

BMH provides paid holidays each year. The company is officially closed on the following days:

  • New Years Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas
  • Day after Christmas
  • New Years Eve

Volunteer Work

As a service to the local community, BMH will provide two days per calendar year with full salary to any employee who would like to volunteer their service to help the under-privileged. Annually, the entire Indianapolis facility teams up together to help out with United Way's Day of Caring. The second day can be taken to help out a charity chosen by the employee.

Tuition Reimbursement

To encourage the personal and professional development of employees, Bastian Material Handling provides up to 100% reimbursement of tuition costs, laboratory fees, and books to employees who successfully complete approved courses. A course grade of "A", "B", or "C" receives 100%, 80%, or 60% reimbursement respectively.

Professional Associations, Conferences, and Subscriptions

BMH encourages employees to increase job-related skills and knowledge through participation in professional associations, conferences, and subscriptions. BMH will cover 50% of all annual professional association dues. If you are serving as an officer in the association, BMH will cover 100% of the dues.

401K Retirement Plan

The 401K plan allows all regular full time employees to contribute a portion of their pre-tax compensation up to $15,000 to the plan for retirement. The plan is administered by Shore & Company and offers many different investment options. These contributions are automatically deducted from the payroll. The matching program begins immediately.

BMH Stock Appreciation Plan

The stock appreciation plan allows employees to purchase (Type "A") or be awarded (Type "B") BMH stock appreciation certificates to share in the growth of the equity of BMH. This plan was designed to allow all employees the opportunity to benefit financially from the growth of the company.

Profit Sharing Plan

The profit sharing plan is a benefit in which a portion of the company's net profit is allocated among all employees equally. Employees are eligible after one full year of service.

Flexible Work Schedules

The normal workday is 8 hours, commencing at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m., with a one hour lunch period. Flextime is available for salaried personnel to accommodate an employee's specific needs. Once a flex schedule is agreed upon, it must remain consistent.

New Employee Referral Bonus

BMH employees are encouraged to submit resumes of qualified acquaintances, friends, and relatives. If the candidate referred by the employee is hired, the employee will receive a $750 bonus upon start date and another $750 bonus after the candidate has completed six months with the company.

Social Activities

BMH is a family oriented company all working toward the same goals. In the process, we all become friends that like to share in social activities. Company sponsored activities allow employees to meet the families of their co-workers and develop lifetime friendships. These social activities include:

Dell Employee Purchasing Program

BMH Employees are available to purchase Dell products for a discounted rate under the Dell Employee Purchasing Program. Purchase new desktops, notebooks, printers, plasma tv's, all at a discounted rate. This document is provided only as an overview of our benefits.
