Applications Engineer
Overview:
To provide value to Bastian by creating concepts for customers.
Superior Performance Objectives:
- Generate project-winning material handling system concepts. Think "out of the box". Listen to the customer and translate their needs effectively.
- Team member with Outside Sales and other members of Applications. May also work with VARs/agents and/or end users directly.
- Accurately estimate the project cost and enter into the appropriate budget format. Brief management on areas of risk or variability.
- Develop proposals and sales presentations for specific projects as well as for training the sales force.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of packaging system control requirements including PLC’s, operator interface stations, product flow control devices, and product detection devices.
- Knowledge of packaging system physical requirements including floor space availability, operator access points, product accumulation conveyors, and material delivery points.
- Ability to prepare system layout drawings and detailed equipment drawings as required to fully describe and identify system components.
- Extremely organized workplace and PC based files.
- IT savvy. Software: MS Office, AutoCAD, Robot Studio, CAPE Pallet Patterns, Auto Mod.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.

- Enjoys the thrill of the hunt, competition, and winning the job. Ability to travel and work flexible hours when needed. Travel estimated at 10%.
- Outstanding communication skills especially phone/e-mail and writing skills.
General Duties:
- Key technologies: robotics, palletizing, conveyor systems (mass and unit handling), AS/RS, controls. Also has expertise with a wide variety of material handling equipment, software and methodologies from best-of-breed suppliers.
- Document design assumptions and other foundational information regarding the project for a smooth transition to Project Management.
- May serve as Project Manager on an as-needed basis.
- Negotiate customer contract terms and conditions with help from Regional Manager and Legal.
- Collateral duties: pricing database management, tools and training of outside sales force, assisting Marketing with job videos/photographs and maintaining library of information on server, opportunity database.
