My Experience
Working at BMH provides many opportunities to interact with our customers and our sister companies. Depending on the day, I develop material handling layouts, concept custom equipment, visit customers to assist with current needs, or manage projects for customers or for other parts of our company.
Working at Bastian
BMH gives me the freedom to support my customers as needed. I enjoy the creative process with developing solutions that bring the right equipment, technology and budget together for each customer's application. I like exposure to the variety of customers I serve in various industries. There are many different responsibilities required for my position, other than sales, including project manager, engineer, designer, drafter, purchaser and several others.
Why do customers come back to me?
Besides the obvious (I provide good products at fair prices), I genuinely care about their business and relationship. I'll offer cost saving and efficiency improvement suggestions as I learn about their operations. They also like that they can call me in to explain their situation and turn me loose in the plant, and I'll come back with a great solution. I've been called 'very clever' as I routinely come up with creative solutions that are also cost effective. As a former Plant Manager, I always think about efficiency and cost. Often, I've made recommendations that resulted in improvements without the customer having to purchase anything from me. Customers whose projects I have managed like that they can just let me run the project and it gets done on time and without any major issues.

Project work I am most proud of
I have introduced, designed and installed three separate Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems for a major automotive supplier. All are used as a buffer between processes in the factory and have greatly contributed toward increased production and space savings. I designed and installed a material handling system that reaches into multiple buildings for a government agency. Using various technologies and equipment, we provide parts to support keeping our country's war fighters deployed. I was also awarded a maintenance contract to support this system. Working for a sister company, I consulted on the design of special automotive equipment, conveyor layouts and subcontractor selection. I also managed the installation of machines and conveyor, making several layout improvements as the installation progressed.
