My Experience
As a Systems Consultant for Bastian Material Handling, I enjoy using my knowledge of best practices in distribution systems and processes to assist our customers in building world-class supply chains. I have had the opportunity to work with many customers in various industries, with projects that range from minor changes to complete redesigns of supply chains. I truly enjoy partnering with our customers and engaging in these opportunities.
Working at Bastian
I really enjoy the opportunity to work with so many varied customers and industries. It keeps our perspectives fresh. It also allows us to look at problems differently, drawing from so many past experiences across different types of businesses.
Why do customers come back to me?
Well, I hope it is because they enjoy working with me. Also, because I was in operations for so long, my approach tends to be pretty realistic. I think that customers appreciate that.
A little bit about myself
Our family lives in Thorntown, Indiana, a rural community about 45 minutes north of Indianapolis. I have a wonderful wife, Laurel, who has been my bride for over 25 years. We have six children of which only two are still at home. Our eldest, Nate, started a software development company after graduating in computer science at Purdue University; Jessica is soon to be a high school teacher and is married to Steve, who is soon to be doing graduate work; Jackie is a nursing student at Purdue; Alex is at Moody Bible Institute, studying to be a Youth Minister; and Adam and Anna are home schooled. The whole family is very active in our church, with various family members at times serving in Kids City, participating in international and domestic mission trips, playing in the worship band and leading small group bible studies. We also enjoy traveling and try to visit family in Alberta, Canada each year.

Project work I am most proud of
There are several projects that I am proud of. One that comes to mind was an engineering study that helped a client to totally re-think their current operation and rebuild their distribution infrastructure. It was exiciting to see the planned improvements come to reality. Another project that I am proud of was one where we consulted with a client during an engineering study and ended up recommending a solution that Bastian could not provide. It was the best recommendation that we could make and it proved once again our independance as an integrator. We continue to work with this client, a tribute to our partnering approach.
