Packing and Packaging
The pack-out process normally consists of:
- Verifying the correct products have been picked.
- Placing the products in an appropriately sized shipping carton.
- Printing and inserting the packing list or invoice.
- Adding protective dunnage.
- Sealing the carton.
- Printing and applying the shipping label.
In a distribution center or manufacturing environment, an efficient pack
process is critical to reducing labor and operational costs. A UPS, FedEx,
or USPS tracking number is often assigned at the pack workstation. Shipping
labels can be custom configured and must be UCC compliant. Bills of lading,
special packaging instructions, invoices, etc. can be printed and inserted
into the shipping container.
Static pack workstations are often designated for special handling
of hazardous materials, ORM-D, and international shipments.
