Manifesting and Shipping
Manifesting and shipping of finished goods is important to keep transportation costs to a minimum, ensure your product arrives undamaged, and verify the labeling is in compliance with your customer’s requirements. The process normally begins by scanning the product for identification and referencing the associated weight and dimensional cube information.
Next, freight rate software calculates the item’s freight cost based on its ship-to location, shipping priority, weight, cube, and any custom discount schedules from your transportation carrier. Likewise, if multiple transportation carriers are available, then the freight rating software performs rate shopping tasks to find the most cost effective cost based on your business rules. Similarly, if the shipping carton is outside of the expected weight tolerance the carton will be diverted for inspection and quality control. Often a master packing list is printed at the pallet level and a bill of lading or shipping manifest is printed for the entire load.
In the same manner, Bastian offers weight and balance software to properly sequence and balance the product throughout the trailer. In addition, reverse drop sequence functionality is available for multi-stop loads and loads can also be segregated by their environments including freezer, cooler, and ambient.
