Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems - ASRS - AS/RS

Bastian Material Handling has a strong history of integrating ASRS systems with other technologies to make a complete material handling system.

Featured ASRS Technologies

Unit Load ASRS

ASRS Unit Load technology is designed to handle unitized loads (full pallet loads) into and out of very high density storage.

Store and Retrieve; Pallets, Full Loads

Mini Load ASRS

A Mini Load ASRS is most frequently used to move and manage small, often irregularly shaped goods or parts.

Store and Retrieve; Trays, Totes, Nesting Containers or Case/Cartons/Cardboard boxes

High Speed Buffer ASRS

High Speed buffers have additional throughput capacity beyond a typical mini load asrs which allows you to store and retrieve orders in a ready to ship sequence.

Store and Retrieve; Totes, Case/Cartons/Cardboard boxes

Robotics ASRS

Robotic integrated ASRS are designed to pick and palletize goods onto a mixed pallet which allows you to retrieve orders in a ready to ship sequence.

Retrieves; Individual Cases/Cartons/Cardboard boxes, Glass Bottles

The Basics of Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (ASRS)

ASRS System

Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) are generally appropriate in applications where high volumes of inventory are moved into and out of a Manufacturing or Distribution operation, making more conventional forms of handling and storage less responsive and inefficient.

Typically considered an alternate to fork lift or other manual material handling approaches, AS/RS Systems are often described as a way of saving space, using your “air rights”, and reducing building costs. The most significant justifications for ASRS systems are that they are faster and more accurate than manual operators because they take less space and induce no human error.

Most ASRS project planners are concerned about process stability, capital effectiveness, and the elimination of non-value adding cost. Properly applied, the AS/RS technology family provides a consistent, highly responsive and perfectly accurate alternative to human based solutions.

Common Benefits of Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (ASRS)

ASRS System
  • Storage of large volumes of material into a controlled system while maintaining accurate inventory details and preserving direct access to all items received – and doing this with minimal labor involvement
  • Direct traceability and accounting of location and quantity of material in the system
  • Re-sequence released inventory to the next process once validation has been made that all material needed is under system control
  • Near 100% accurate, real time information about the inventory on hand allowing achievable commitments to be made to your customer - as opposed to “best efforts promises”
  • Operation without interruptions, distractions, break, vacations or shift premiums
  • Gentler handling of the inventory with less product damage from transit, misstacking or collisions
  • Elimination of periodic Physical Inventory procedures
  • Reduction of inventory through the elimination of safety stocks that often creep into manual systems
  • Worker productivity is increased by the elimination of non-value adding material handling tasks from their work scope
