Picking Technologies
Picking technologies are used for picking several levels of product for packing orders. Pick modules are available for rack picking, pallet picking, carton flow, and shelving. It is not uncommon to have a combination of picking systems within large warehouse centers, and it is also possible to get a picking technology customized for your distribution center’s needs. Orders can be picked to several types of locations including totes, conveyors, pallet jacks, carts, as wells as other forms of equipment to be moved to the packing and shipping area. There are a variety of technologies and methods for picking orders. The most common of these include Pick to Light, Pick to Display, Pick to Voice, and RF Mobile Handheld devices. Depending on your operation and goals, one or several of these technologies may be utilized to increase productivity and accuracy while reducing cycle time. Some examples of how picking technologies can improve your distribution center are:
- An increase in picking rates
- A reduction in floor space and aisle space needed for picking
- Allows for a more vertical storage facility
- Allows for a higher rate of restocking and product rotation
Bastian regularly incorporates order picking technologies into material handling systems.
