Overhead & Ceiling Hung Conveyor
Overhead or ceiling hung conveyor is often used to maximize space, sort, buffer, and distribute, and is one of the most economical methods of conveying while maximizing floor space. Bastian will examine your needs and goals to assist you in determining the best type of overhead conveyor available to meet your material handling needs.
Bastian engineers have years of experience designing overhead conveyor systems. Call us today for more information about how Bastian can assist you with your overhead conveying needs.
There are three main types of overhead conveyor commonly used in both the manufacturing and distribution industries: automated electrified monorail (AEM) conveyor, power & free overhead conveyor, and enclosed track overhead.
Automated Electrified Monorail (AEM) Overhead Conveyors
Automated Electrified Monorail (AEM) overhead conveyor systems are ideal for long distances, sorting, buffering, and distribution. Features include:
- Non-synchronous conveyance
- Individually powered carriers
- Zoned speed control (typically 20 – 300 fpm)
- Reversible direction
- Capable of steep incline & decline angles
- Urethane wheels provide quiet operation
- Few moving parts (low maintenance)
Power & Free Overhead Conveyors
Power & Free overhead conveyor systems are ideal for long distances, sorting, buffering, and distribution. Features include:
- Non-synchronous conveyance
- Capable of steep incline & decline angles
- Individual carriers can be routed to separate lanes (i.e. paint booths, work stations)
- Allows accumulation and buffering
Enclosed Track Overhead Conveyors
Enclosed track overhead conveyor is one of the most economical methods of conveying. Some of the most common uses of enclosed track overhead conveyor include:
- Handling products through processing such as spray painting, dip painting, bonderizing, washing, degreasing, drying, cooling, sand blasting, and heat treating.
- Moving incoming parts and raw materials from receiving docks to storage, and outgoing parts to shipping docks carrying parts between storage and manufacturing, or from one department to another.
- Carrying work in process of manufactured parts from one operation to another, and through assembly, inspection, and packaging.
- As mobile storage (using free air space) in warehouses. Enclosed overhead track conveyor can also be used to store parts between operations.
- Transporting items between buildings and over long distances, such as moving items from one plant to another.
