Primary & Secondary Robotic Packaging

primary packaging

Primary and secondary robotic packaging refers to the automatic transport of products to the case or package that it will be preserved in. Primary packaging refers to handling raw food and placing food product in the first container or package. Secondary packaging is the process of placing a single package into a case that will receive multiple packages.

Challenges in this application include high throughputs along with variations in product size, shape and orientation. Robotic packaging addresses these challenges with high speed accurate robots designed specifically for the task and combine these robots with machine vision technology to locate, identify and track the part during robotic pickup.

Our vast experience with conveyor systems allows us to provide the appropriate material handling and conveyor solutions to present the product to the work cell and discharge the fully packaged product through the next operations such as case sealers, weigh scale, metal detection, labeling or palletizing.

Bastian's enginneers are proficient at combining high speed robots with advanced machine vision to produce the most efficient, cost effective, reliable packaging system

Primary Robotic Packaging

primary packaging

Primary packaging refers to the process of placing food products into a first container or package. The application of robotics and the rapid growth of automating primary packaging have been spawned by a new generation of wash down and FDA approved robots. These robots are designed

Primary packaging applications involve fast moving processes with product that varies in size and shape. Machine vision technology enables the robot to track the product on a moving conveyor, retrieve products that are not oriented, orient the product, and then place the product in its corresponding package. These operations can be accomplished at speeds up to 200 picks per minute.

Secondary Robotic Packaging

secondary packaging

Secondary packaging is a high speed process that involves placing a single package into a case that will receive multiple packages. There is a group of packaging robots, with higher payloads, that are designed specifically for the high speed and repetitive demands of secondary packaging.

Primary & Secondary Robotic Packaging Benefits

  • Reduction of human contact to sensitive products
  • Excellent ROI based on reduced labor and increased throughput
  • Production rates of up to 200 picks/minute/robot
  • Accurate and repeatable product placement
  • Improved ergonomics through the elimination of repetitive tasks
  • Improved quality with vision inspection integrated

Primary & Secondary Robotic Packaging Specifications

  • Throughputs up to 200 products/minute
  • Vision can identify 100 or more products/second
  • High picking accuracy and tool compensation can bring placement near 0.1 mm
  • Stationary-mounted vision sensor and accessories
