Our experts combine the powers of scalable material handling systems, innovative software and custom automation engineering for complete, unique solutions. Our goal is to use these tools to help companies, across a broad spectrum of industry segments, become leaders in their industries.  

Our history of solutions varies in complexity from simple to highly automated, such as mobile robots, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), automated guided vehicles (AGV), goods-to-person technology, sortation, and conveyor. Every solution our team proposes is considered on its own merits to provide tremendous productivity gains and a quick return on investment.

Since 1952, Bastian Solutions has grown from a Midwest company into a global corporation with 20 U.S. offices as well as international offices in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Mexico and Spain. Additionally, the company engineers and manufactures many of its own products, including ZiPline Conveyor and Exacta: Supply Chain Software.

History of Bastian Solutions

1952

EC_Stark_Company

Elgan Stark, father-in-law of Bill Bastian Sr., incorporated the company that would eventually become Bastian Solutions, originally named the E.C. Stark Co., Inc., on October 31, 1952. The company supplied conventional material handling products including casters, hand trucks, and carts. The motto was "If It Rolls - We Supply It."

1960s

In 1965, the company expands for the first time by opening an office in Louisville, Kentucky. 

Bill Bastian Sr. purchased the company from Mr. Stark in 1967 and became president of the Bastian Stark Material Handling Corporation. As product offerings and the client base continued to expand, an additional office was opened in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1969.

1970s

The company was renamed in 1971 to Bastian Material Handling Corporation. 

1980s

Bastian Material Handling became more involved with automated solutions and information systems that control the flow of products in distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and warehousing operations. 

In 1988 a third office and a warehouse was opened in Evansville, Indiana.

1990s

In January of 1992, Bill Bastian II purchased the company from Bill Bastian Sr. and became the new president.

Bastian Material Handling continued to grow by adding offices in Michigan and Missouri, acquiring supply chain software company ASAP Automation in 1997, and having its first international expansion in 1998 into Bengaluru, India.

2000s

In 2000, Bastian Material Handling became an LLC.

In 2003, Bastian purchased Hytrol of California and opened an office in Los Angles, California. Also in 2003, Blue Arc Engineering was formed to provide custom engineering and fabrication of manufacturing and material handling equipment.

Bastian created its first robotics division with the purchase of VanPak in 2005, which was renamed Bastian Robotics. Expansion continued with a new East Coast office in 2007, another in Toledo, Ohio in 2008 and an office for Bastian Robotics in Minnesota in 2009.

2010s

Westfield-grand-opening-cherry-blossom-treeIn 2010, Bastian Material Handling began engineering and manufacturing its own line of conveyor. Growth continued throughout the 2010's with offices opened in Toronto, Canada; Montreal, Canada; Atlanta, Georgia; São Paulo, Brazil; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Tampa, Florida; San Luis Potosí, Mexico; Mexico City, Mexico and a 11,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Greenfield, Indiana. 

In 2012, Bastian Material Handling was renamed Bastian Solutions, incorporating all divisions, including Blue Arc and ASAP Automation, under one brand. In 2013, Bastian Solutions was included on Inc.'s 500 fastest growing companies in the U.S. In 2014, Aaron Jones became president as Bill Bastian II transitioned to CEO. 

In 2015, Bastian Solutions formed a mobile robotics division in Dallas, TX and opened a new sales office in the same location.

In 2017, Bastian Solutions was acquired by Toyota Advanced Logistics, a subsidiary of Japan-based Toyota Industries Corporation. In 2018, after the acquisition of Atlanta-based Peach State Integrated Technologies, Bill Bastian II retired. Michael Romano, president and CEO of Toyota Advanced Logistics, became CEO of Bastian Solutions.

In 2019, Bastian Solutions opened its Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Westfield, Indiana.
